SIFAX Group FC, the 2014 Maritime Cup Bronze Medal winners, will trade tackle with National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) for the opening match of this year’s edition of the competition.
The pairing emerged after the draws for the competition, designed to foster better relationship among companies and government agencies in the country’s maritime sector, was done at the Etal Hotels, Apapa, at the weekend, with eight teams participating.
The opening match will hold on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, immediately after the opening ceremony.
Speaking after the draws, the Team Manager of SIFAX FC, Mr. Henry Ajoh, expressed his excitement at the opportunity of playing the opening match for the first time.
He said: “We are really excited with this match-up with NAGAFF, which incidentally, is the current cup holder, having won the competition last year. The opening match of the competition is usually a fun-filled affair, full of razzmatazz. So, we are privileged to have been picked to play the first match.
“SIFAX FC has a long history with NAGAFF and we want to use the opportunity of this game to showcase the abundant talents that our team possesses and to send a warning signal to other participating teams that SIFAX FC’s ambition this year is to lift the trophy.”
Speaking on the team’s readiness, the Coach, Mr. Adeyemi Irinyemi, noted that having played about eight tune-up matches, with seven won and a solitary draw, the team would spring surprises when the tournament kicks off.
“The boys are well primed for the coming games. The friendly matches have really helped us in knocking them to shape. Except for about two players who are injured, the team is fit and ready to confront any opposition. We are ready,” he said.
SIFAX FC is grouped alongside NAGAFF, Mickey Excellence and Customs.
