CRANE MANAGER

 

Job Objective

 

Under general guidance of the Technical Manager, this position provides supervision for the staff handling technical repairs and maintenance for the harbour cranes. Key job objectives include maximizing crane productivity, controlling cost and maintaining a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree/diploma in mechanics/electromechanical engineering.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 experience in a similar position

Job-Specific Skills

  • Sound technical experience on mechanical, hydraulics and electrical equipment.
  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent qualitative, quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Provide regular and focused tool box talks and record attendance

 

 

Job Description

 

  • Ensures that the preventive maintenance and repair of the cranes are done in a cost effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment. Ensures equipment are maintained in a safe and reliable working condition in accordance with planned preventive maintenance programme.
  • Monitor and develop maintenance staff to ensure technical skills are maintained, and that a transfer of that knowledge is made to employees whenever appropriate.
  • Ensure that breakdowns are repaired promptly, and that the repair work does not disrupt operations. Control overtime through adequate planning and scheduling.
  • Ensures that planning, scheduling, and unscheduled repairs are carried out efficiently and cost effectively, with quality service.
  • Oversees the administrative requirements of the workshop, including warranty obligations, inspection records, manual updates, equipment defect reports, maintenance services, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Reviews and recommends updates to maintenance services policies and procedures to ensure quality, reliability, and efficiencies.
  • Reviews new equipment for suitability and makes recommendations, based on cost, availability, and needs of business operations.
  • When openings occur in the department, interviews and selects qualified candidates for staffing requirements.
  • In addition to PM programme, develop both asset refurbishment and asset replacement programme linked directly to capital expenditure forecasts and budgets where applicable.
  • Identify and recommend stock levels for components and assemblies which are required; consequently authorize, or seek authority, within budgetary limits to purchase specific items.
  • Monitor the manpower levels and requirements within his department. This will also include an active role in the recruitment and subsequent employment selection process.
  • Monitor the training levels and requirements within his department. This will also include an active role in the selection of appropriate courses and employees to attend those courses.
  • Maintains an effective safety programme, coordinating safety training with HSSE department; ensures all injuries are reported timely, properly investigated, and measures taken to prevent future injuries. Ensures good housekeeping practices throughout the workshop.
  • Undertake any other technical-related assignments as and when required.

 

 

 

HEAD, TECHNICAL

Job Objective

You will be responsible for the overall management and technical operations of our fleet e.g mobile harbour cranes, RTGs, terminal trucks, reach stacker/empty handler and other equipment. This your role also includes overseeing the daily operations of maintenance and repair of the equipment.

  • Minimum 5-7 experience in a similar position.

Job-Specific Skills

  • Knowledge of Planned Maintenance System or Project Management
  • Sound technical experience on mechanical, hydraulics and electrical equipment.
  • Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent qualitative, quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships within and beyond the company.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the maintenance and or remedial works of assets are maintained in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensures that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition in accordance with planned preventive maintenance programme and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
  • Ensures that breakdowns are attended to and rectified promptly and to make sure that follow-up work is undertaken as necessary.
  • Oversees the administrative requirements of the assets including warranty obligations, inspection records, manual updates, equipment defect reports, maintenance services, policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Prepare and justify annual budget for the department
  • Ensure that purchases for the department are made in compliance with the procurement policy by assisting the procurement function in sourcing and pricing of spare parts.
  • Perform technical compliance audits and investigation on defects/failures on a regular scheduled basis to ensure conformance
  • Work closely with the HSE team to ensure smooth and successful implementation of safety policies & procedure.
  • Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum.
  • Perform systematic review of recommended codes, guidelines and standards and ensure compliance with Quality & Safety Management standards
  • Plan and schedule preventive maintenance to avoid overtime working.
  • Reviews new equipment for suitability and makes recommendations, based on cost, availability, and needs of business operations.
  • Review and prepare monthly variance reports
  • Undertake any other technical-related assignments as and when required.
