SIFAX Group Empowers 500 Young Girls to Mark International Women’s Day 2025

Lagos, Nigeria – March 6, 2025

In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, SIFAX Group organized an outreach program at Apapa Senior High School, empowering 500 female students with education, mentorship, and essential supplies such as sanitary pads and notebooks.

The initiative aligned with this year’s global theme, “Accelerate Action,” highlighting the importance of investing in girls’ education and fostering future female leaders.

The event featured motivational talks from senior female executives at SIFAX Group, including Catherine Abuah (Group Head, Marketing), Kate Damasus (Head, Oil Monitoring), Pat Nwaogwugwu (Head, Stevedoring), Onyinye Emenike (Head, Corporate Communications, Sky Capital- a susbidiary of SIFAX Group), Nurse Juliet Eges (Head Nurse, SIFAX Group), among others. The speakers shared their career journeys, emphasizing resilience, hard work, and the importance of education.

Catherine Abuah, reflecting on her own background, told the students:

“Education is not a scam. It opens doors, breaks the cycle of poverty, and empowers girls to shape their futures.”

She encouraged the girls to pursue knowledge, work diligently, and uphold strong values, reinforcing that their dreams are achievable through dedication and integrity.

A key session focused on breaking gender barriers and achieving financial independence, where students raised questions about cultural expectations and the role of ethics in success. Addressing concerns about whether connections or unethical practices are necessary to advance, the speakers were clear:

“Integrity and hard work will take you far. You do not need to compromise your values to succeed.”

Nurse Juliet Eges led a dedicated session on menstrual hygiene management, offering practical guidance on self-care and debunking common myths. The session emphasized the need for open conversations about menstrual health to reduce stigma and empower girls to manage their well-being confidently.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the students, Omotunde Olufunmilayo, the school’s Head Girl, shared:

“I am deeply grateful to SIFAX Group for this life-changing opportunity. The lessons on self-care, resilience, and education have inspired me to dream bigger and believe in myself. Thank you for making us feel special, investing in our future, and reminding us that we are strong, valuable, and capable of making a difference.”

The event concluded with the distribution of educational materials, sanitary pads, and mentorship opportunities, ensuring the impact extends beyond International Women’s Day.

Through this outreach, SIFAX Group reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young girls, recognizing that investing in their education today paves the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
