When Ololade Dawodu first walked into SIFAX Group in 2010 as a corps member, she could hardly have imagined the path ahead. Posted to the Shipping Department during her NYSC year under the late Mr Henry Ajoh, she stepped into a world she openly admits was unfamiliar. “To say it was a strange start would be an understatement,” she recalls, describing her early days navigating the demands of shipping agents and the intensity of port operations.

Fresh out of university and with no prior experience in logistics, Dawodu quickly learned that technical knowledge alone would not carry her through. “That season taught me one of my earliest career lessons; understanding people is just as important as understanding the work,” she says. It was a lesson forged in real time, managing impatient clients and diffusing tense situations.
Over time, she found her rhythm, building trust and mastering the art of calm in chaos, so much so that her absence was immediately noticed.
A Defining Transition
Her performance during that formative year did not go unnoticed. Upon completing her NYSC in March 2011, she was retained and redeployed to the Sales and Marketing Department under Mr. Oliver Omajuwa. It was here, she says, that “my growth journey really began.”

In this role, Dawodu managed key accounts, including the U.S. Embassy, while also contributing to corporate communications and representing the Group at industry events.
Building What Didn’t Exist
One defining moment from that period stands out. Faced with an opportunity to provide packing and removal services, a line of business the company had never explored, she chose initiative over hesitation. “Instead of saying, ‘we don’t know how,’ I decided to research what it would take,” she explains.
From proposal development to execution, she led the process that birthed a service line that continues to operate in Lagos and Abuja today. For her, it remains “deeply fulfilling” to see that idea evolve into a sustained business offering.
Stepping into the Unknown Again: Leadership at the Container Depot
After three years, Dawodu embraced another unfamiliar challenge, moving to the Empty Container Depot in Ijora as an Assistant Manager. Once again stepping outside her comfort zone, she leaned on the support of colleagues and immersed herself in terminal operations.

“Opportunities often come in areas you’ve never touched before,” she reflects, noting how this recurring pattern has defined her career. Her adaptability paid off, as she rose to become Deputy Manager, eventually heading the depot.
Return to Sales and Marketing
By 2017, she returned to Sales and Marketing, this time as Head of Department, overseeing critical functions such as client relationship management, pricing, business development, and tendering.
Answering the Call to Lead
In 2019, she took on yet another pivotal role as Head of Clearing and Forwarding, a position she has now held for eight years. The decision, she notes, was influenced by a mentor who saw potential in her. “My line manager at the time saw something in me and encouraged me to take on the challenge. I trusted that belief,” she says.
Growth Through Unfamiliar Challenges
Looking back on her journey, Dawodu identifies a clear pattern, growth rooted in courage and adaptability. “Every major phase of my career came from saying yes to something unfamiliar,” she explains.
While acknowledging that the journey has not been without its challenges, she emphasises the importance of resilience. “There have been difficult seasons, demanding moments, and times that tested my strength,” she says, adding that she has remained “focused, consistent, and approached every challenge with grit, resilience, and a willingness to learn.”
What Drives Her Daily
A Mindset of Continuous Improvement
“What keeps me coming back every morning is the knowledge that there is always something new to build, improve, or learn,” she says, pointing to the diverse opportunities SIFAX has provided across multiple business functions.

Advice to New Employees
To younger colleagues just starting out, her message is clear and grounded in experience. “Do not be afraid of opportunities that stretch you, Sometimes the roles that scare you the most become the ones that define you.” she advises.
She also emphasises the value of humility, strong relationships, and consistency, noting that “your willingness to learn will often take you further than experience alone.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
As for the future, Dawodu is optimistic. Having witnessed the company’s evolution across various service lines, she is particularly excited about the role of innovation and integration.

“What excites me most about the future of SIFAX Group is our ability to keep evolving with the changing demands of trade, logistics, and supply chain services, highlighting the potential for technology-driven growth and greater impact,” she says,
Reflecting on the Road So Far
Above all, her journey is marked by gratitude. “More than anything, I am grateful; grateful for the people who believed in me, the opportunities I was given, the challenges that shaped me, and the privilege of still being part of this journey,” she reflects.
From a young corps member navigating uncertainty to a seasoned leader shaping key operations, Ololade Dawodu’s story stands as a testament to resilience, curiosity, and the courage to embrace the unknown.
